SALMON PUTTU

I have never heard about salmon fish until my marriage...Rk mentioned it's a healthy one and his Chinese friends ate it raw with soya sauce... OMG,how come they eat it raw...From then on i have always wanted to try cooking salmon at home...But my first attempt of cooking salmon was a big failure:-s..
All i tried to do was a simple tawa fry, but it turned out rubbery and bitter...Then thought to myself"May be I dint knew how to cook salmon".I tried to look up for some interesting salmon recipes on net,but nothing seemed to satisfy my liking...So I dint want to take another chance of risk...
Finally one day came across a salmon puttu recipe on web... I have tried shark puttu before but … this was new to me and the ingredients were with Indian spices...Then decided to give a try… Rk and me loved it... We cleaned the Kadai completely and I was happy that I could include this healthy fishy in my cooking...:p

Ingredients:

For Marnation:
Salmon - 1/4 kg
Red chilly powder - 3/4 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/3 tsp
Pepper powder - 1/4 tsp
Salt - pinch
Water - 1/4 cup

Onion - 1
Curry leaves - few
Red chilly powder - 1/4 tsp
Pepper powder - 1/4 tsp
Coconut - 2 tbs
Coriander leaves - few
Salmon fish oil - 1/2 tbs

To Temper:
Oil - 1/2 tbs
Green chilly - 3
Garlic - 10(small sized)
Cinnamon - 1 inch
Clove - 2
Bay leaf - 1

Method:

Cut the salmon into big cubes and marinate with the ingredients under"For Marination" and refrigerate.

Take a kadai pour in water add the marinated salmon and allow to boil till the fish gets cooked well roughly around 6 mins  then mash the fish into pieces.

And drain the excess water with oil and set aside,Then take a kadai pour in oil and add masala items(cinnamon, clove and bay leaf) and saute till aroma comes out.

Then add in chopped garlic, green chilly and saute brown then add chopped onion and saute well till its translucent.

Pour in salmon fish oil and add the mashed cooked salmon and saute well for 3 mins and add in the red chilly powder and pepper powder and saute well till dry.

Then add the shredded coconut and saute well then finally add in chopped coriander and stir well.

Give a try Enjoy this delightful healthy salmon and taste it

Notes:

Refrigerate the salmon at least for half hour before you steam cook, this helps the masala to coat well. And cook the salmon just for 5 mins and not more it cooks easily.

Drain the excess water from salmon, the oil from the fish is drained and you can use the same for fish oil.

Puttu's main flavor is garlic so don't reduce it.You can skip the red chilly powder for the second time and replace with 2 more green chilly.

Keep smiling!:)
